Leonard Lundgren, an Austin mid-century architect is known for building the first ever circular hotel in the world, the iconic Holiday Inn on Town (Ladybird) Lake. We've all seen it and we probably have all wanted to go inside, maybe even stay there! He and his team went on to build other cylindrical Holiday Inns in LA, Acapulco, Panama and more, and they are all iconic and special.
But before the hotels, Leonard Lundgren built some creative homes around austin and beyond. Currently one of his gems is for sale, 3303 Cherry Tree Circle. This home, built in 1956, in Balcones Park is pretty exceptional! It features on of my favorite design elements, glass block, at the entrance. You enter a marble foyer and to the left is a striking living room with a wall of windows overlooking a lush front yard, open to the mirrored dining room and beyond that the groovy and updated kitchen. Something about this lay out, with the mirrors and marble floors and the galley kitchen, efficient and practical, reminds me of many homes in Mexico City. There are 2 other living areas, one with a fireplace for cozy reading or an evening cocktail, and one that could be an amazing media room. When I lived in this neighborhood, I would walk my baby daughter in the jogger on these streets and was always curious about the house with the glass blocks.
